type='text'>experiences

Yipee! thanks to the encouragement of my one commentator(?) Hrishu Suman I hereby break my hiatus..
following up 'my experiences with chikungunya' i like to think that experience is a good way of overcoming fear.
We grow up with a bundle of mindsets and fears which are expelled best by 1st hand experience. Of course provided it doesnt harm anyone/thing/myself too much .
In my checklist of experiences is:
Bitten by dog - yes
Fell of the scooter - yes
Had a fractured bone - no
Been in a fire - no
been in a natural calamity - yes from a safe distance
interacted closely with someone very 'different' - yes
been in love - yes
lost someone very dear to death - yes
tried drugs - no
tried & trying alchohol - yes
other unmentionables - yes & no

Do add on your own list of 'experiences' that have enriched you or helped you overcome fear in some way...
and life does go on...

I got it!

Everybody in India has got/is getting/is expecting to be afflicted with Chikungunya. They say it is a mosquito borne disease. You get severe pain in your joints and fever. But believe me you cant imagine what its like till you get it. Its like an iron weight tied to your joints (in my case -the knees). However I am not too sad I got infected because I think its good to have hands-on (sic) experience, esp of a news worthy disease such as this!

Some theories about Chiks-

If a mosquito bites you after biting an infected person between 2pm - 6pm you will get infected

There is no cure, you can manage pain & fever

This is a result of biological warfare (by you-know-who/ the-one-who-cannot-be named) along with slyly releasing the larvae of dengue-laden mosquitoes

The fatter & older you are, the longer it takes to recover

Ignorant folks confuse it with the bird flu (because of the chik-chicken association). One uncorruptible vegetarian told me with much sadness that why should a veggie like him get a non-veg disease?

Anyways good luck if you do get chiks. But dont worry, take plenty of rest & fluids, eat well and get better sooon...
